Description
The Communications Specialist is responsible for driving public relations and communications strategies for the school district and promoting positive relationships among our students, staff members, and community stakeholders.  This position manages and produces content for the Asheboro City Schools website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube channels. This individual works closely with the Executive Team to plan, develop, and implement a comprehensive communications plan that  aligns with and promotes the district’s strategic plan, initiatives, and programs. Additionally, this position creates or coordinates the production of various informational pieces, including  an annual report and various brochures.

Professional Qualifications:
? Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communication, or related field; prior related work experience or masters degree preferred.
?  Excellent written and oral communication skills. Bilingual abilities in Spanish are beneficial.
?  Ability to plan, prioritize and organize a varied workload, while adapting to periodic changes to take advantage of new opportunities.  .
? Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds
? Social media application experience required (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram).
? Experience in web design and content management systems.
? Ability to work independently and in teams.
? Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suites, Adobe Suites, and graphic design tools.
? Knowledge of K-12 education preferred.

Essential Responsibilities:
? Follow all rules, policies, procedures of Asheboro City Schools, along with local, state, and federal regulations
pertaining to public school systems.
? Create content for multi-channel media promotion, manage media relations, and help craft communications strategies that advance school district priorities.
? Coordinate efforts in planning, developing, coordinating, promoting, branding, and publicizing the school district through the use of print, digital, and all other communications methods to reach the widest scope of appropriate
audiences.
? Write and edit press materials (news releases, media statements, talking points and other public-facing content).
? Prepare, contribute, oversee the preparation of reports, presentations, and responses on strategic issues as
appropriate, and in response to public information requests.
?  Build and foster relationships with news media outlets and assist media representatives in obtaining
 information, setting up interviews, and providing story ideas.  
?  Monitor media landscape to keep team informed of relevant developments; assist with rapid response and/or crisis communications relating to breaking news events
? Collaborate with principals, staff members, program directors, and others in publicizing and promoting any
performance, exhibition, display, or special program sponsored by the school/district.
? Coordinate and organize special events.
? Perform additional relevant duties as assigned.
