BUS MONITOR

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

 

The Bus Monitor assists the school bus driver in maintaining discipline while bus is in operation; maintain proper records and documentation; assist with student loading and unloading and seating arrangements as required. The person in this position reports to the Transportation Supervisor.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on school bus; monitor and assist students while bus is in operation.

 

Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, record-keeping and completing route surveys.

 

Assist driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheel chair clamps are secured as required.

 

Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students.

 

Communicate with school personnel regarding medical concerns or behavior as appropriate.

 

Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.

 

Assist disabled children on and off the bus; lift children as required; assure responsible adult meets students leaving the bus.

 

Attend training/meetings as assigned.

 

Maintain regular attendance.

 

Perform other duties as assigned. These duties may include custodial, maintenance or other school based duties as needed.

MINIMUM TRANING AND EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum of high school diploma preferred

 

  1. S. citizenship or documented work authorization 

 

Must pass a DOT drug and alcohol test

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED 

TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Physical Requirements:  Must be able to walk, lift, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch.  Work in this classification is considered medium physical work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Must be able to work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditions. Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.

 

Interpersonal Communications:  Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.

 

Manual Dexterity:  Requires use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.

 

Form/Spatial Aptitude:  Requires the ability to be able to visually inspect small defects and/or small parts and use a variety of measuring devices.  Must be able to observe general surroundings and activities.
